Our Freedoms are Under Attack!

The newly elected state representatives and senate are in a rush to pass all sorts of crazy gun control schemes:  red flag gun laws, universal background checks, one handgun a month, 10 round magazine limit and even semi-auto gun bans have all been pre-filed for the 2020 session.

It isn't about crime, Virginia has the fourth lowest violent crime rate!  Ultimately, gun control is about control of law abiding citizens.  Criminals, by definition, do not obey the law.

Gun owners - we need to get more active politically than ever to stop the loss of our freedoms.  Please join Virginia Citizens Defense League's Virginia Alert mailing list so you can be alerted of action items (you can do that for free!).  After that, send a generous donation to VCDL, Gun Owners of America and the National Rifle Association.

Gun Rights Rally

Last week, I had the privilege of joining several hundred other patriots at a gun rights rally at the Virginia State Capitol building.  The rally featured some excellent speakers including:
  • Philip Van Cleave, President of Virginia Citizens Defense League
  • Erich Pratt, Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America
  • Maj Toure, Founder of Black Guns Matter

The speakers reiterated the uselessness of the governor's proposed gun control schemes including red flag laws and universal background checks.  Gun control will not increase our safety.

Here's actions we can must take to keep our rights:
  • Join gun rights organizations and buy gift memberships for your family members: NRA, VCDL, GOA
  • Find some non-shooters and take them shooting
  • Vote to protect our gun rights!

Gun Control Hypocrisy

4/25/2019

2020 Presidential Candidates are "in a race to the bottom" to see who can promise the biggest attacks on our 2nd Amendment freedoms.  For example, Kamala Harris has said she will make Executive Orders to enact gun control within 100 days of taking office.

Hollywood actors and actresses are also calling for gun control while protected day and night by armed security.  At the recent Academy Awards, the police protection was on par with when the President visits!

This hypocrisy should come as no surprise to us.  Hollywood celebrities and politicians are not at all in-touch with the day to day lives of normal Americans.

Law Enforcement Response Saves Lives in Mass Shooting

12/14/2018

I was saddened last month to read about the 12 people killed in a mass shooting at a California bar.

I would like to commend the law enforcement response and honor the sacrifice made by Sgt. Ron Helus.  He and two officers from the CHP arrived about three minutes after the shooting began and engaged the shooter without waiting for backup.  The officers were following a new police strategy.  Sgt. Helus lost his life to save others.

I agree with the sheriff's quote from the article: “There is no doubt they saved lives by going in there and engaging the suspect. Who knows? We don’t know, we heard anywhere from 150 to 200 people in there. It could have been much, much worse."

However, as I wrote about in a previous post, the FBI's study of mass shootings showed that private citizens can often engage the shooters much more quickly than law enforcement (this shooter did a LOT of damage in three minutes).   California has some of the toughest guns laws in the nation.  Tough gun laws don't keep bad guys from having guns, they only keep the law abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves.

Guns save lives!

Active Shooters and Private Citizens

Do you carry a gun to defend yourself?  Check out the report released by the FBI to summarize the active shootings from 2016 and 2017.

The conclusion includes the following quote acknowledging the role of private citizens in stopping mass shootings:
“Armed and unarmed citizens engaged the shooter in 10 incidents. They safely and successfully ended the shootings in eight of those incidents, their selfless actions likely saved many lives.  The enhanced threat posed by active shooters and the swiftness with which active shooter incidents unfold support the importance of preparation by law enforcement officers and citizens alike.”

A life or death situation can unfold in seconds.  This is a good reminder for us all to be aware of our surroundings and train to stop the gunfight quickly.

Thomas Jefferson and Gun Control

I heard an amazing quote from Thomas Jefferson during the third episode of the Gun Owners of America "Firing Back" podcast.  This new podcast has been very informative in discussing the history of gun control around the world and some of the basic myths including - background checks, gun registration, "No Fly, No Buy," and others.

His quote is :
"I prefer dangerous freedom to safe slavery."  This is very inspiring to me and a great reminder of why the founding fathers gave us the right to keep and bear arms -  to ensure our freedom.  Gun control isn't about guns, it is about CONTROL.   Any gun control law is an imposition on our freedom and means law abiding citizens will suffer.

I've subscribed to this podcast and recommend that you do too.  Also, consider joining the GOA to help ensure our freedoms are protected and expanded.

Is it time to ban cars?

6/4/2017

I'm shocked and saddened to read about last night's terrorist attack in London where cowards used a car to mow down innocent pedestrians before continuing their rampage with knives.  Similar car attacks happened in Times Square last month and in Paris a year ago.

As we've seen over and over again, a gun isn't the only tool used to commit mass murder, yet no one is talking about banning cars or tractors.  Mass murders cannot be stopped by outlawing guns.

It has been proven over and over again that guns save lives.  Reducing private gun ownership or restricting the ability of law abiding citizens to carry guns will only serve to make us all more vulnerable to madmen who seek to cause mass casualties.
